  • Cambodia is home of course to the great holy city and palace complex of Angkor Wat. In the fourteenth century, the Thai sacked Ankor Wat in an epic jungle battle involving war-elephants and rockets. This marked the transfer of political power to the Thai, and also Cambodia's transition from Hinduism to Buddhism.

  • When Victorian missionaries started work in Myanmar (then, and perhaps now still properly called Burma), some of the tribal peoples such as the Karen saw them as fulfilling ancient prophecies, and responded in great numbers.

  • Little was done for leprosy patients until the Christians came. And some missionaries got so close to the patients that they themselves contracted leprosy.

  • Portions of the gospel of Matthew have been found in Japan dating from the 8th century ad -- another testimony to the extraordinary early spread of the Christian faith.
